  42. This is my first attempt to do anything with radio so im a bit unsure how a
  43. few things work.

  45. I want to build a reciever to work in the high VHF range ~160Mhz, for
  46. transmitting digital data, I am considering using IC's because space is a
  47. premium. I am looking at using a Motorola MC3362 narrowband FM reciever. In the
  48. many books I have been reading they suggest using a phased lock loop and/or?
  49. duel modulas prescalers for circuits to work at high frequencies. The problem
  50. is that I don't understand what the PLL and prescler are supposed to do and
  51. I don't understand how they work. The PLL seems to allow multiple channels but
  52. that is not a requirement, does it offer superior frequency stability?

  54. The MC3362 also has two inputs to the first mixer, some example circuits use
  55. both inputs using a transformer for impedence matching, other examples
  56. use only one input (other input grouded) and inductors for impedence matching,
  57. whats the advantage of using the two inputs Vs one input to the first mixer?

  69. I have a Kenwood TH-27A and TH-28A that I would like to use 
  70. in Europe.  Is it possible to Mod these radios to act like a
  71. "E" version?  I.e. generate a 1750Hz tone during transmit? 
  72. I don't care about switching back, since the radios
  73. will be in Europe for about three years.

  114. tone can be changed by moving a slider.

  170. After playing with both of these and the Icom and reading the QST review I
  171. bought the Alinco DJ580T.  It does most all of the things that the others
  172. do, but it is cheaper and I found it easy to program and easy to modify.
